the atashi foundation

dysfunctional
human artistry

Out of the restlessness of a season of confusion and discontent, the minds of a few gave birth to the atashi foundation as a method of protest — against their circumstances, against their preconceptions, against themselves. We call the results of this self-imposed challenge art, strictly as a matter of denotation. There are no claims of aesthetic or cultural value for what we produce, beyond whatever intrinsic value human thought may possess.

The foundation’s members and supporters are anonymous, and we cannot accept unsolicited private donations. If you are interested in assisting our efforts, simply find a way to create and share something of your own; perhaps one day it will inspire us in turn.

Like a phoenix from the ashes, they said.

For three years, 0.haodao SYSTEM lay dormant, a partnership torn apart at the seams by circumstances within and without. In trying to build a point upon where all communications would converge, our founders discovered that this center could not hold — the mere anarchy of their conflicting passions and desires destroyed any hopes of their collaboration’s survival. In a field of disillusionment and despair, the last glimmer of an idea was left to smolder into extinction.

The designs of men, however, do not fade so quickly.

For reviving our endeavor from the ruin of cynical disagreement, we are eternally grateful to the atashi foundation for their support, and in turn give wholly of ourselves to promote their mission, whatever the cause may be.

It is inundated in the chaos of seven billion fellow souls, restricted in its communication by the inexactness and unreliability of human expression, and lost in the simultaneous desires to connect and to sever; and yet still, given the right occasion, and despite the crippling odds against it, a clear voice will pierce through the din of our ever-encroaching surroundings to say: “I am here.”

I am humbled to be able to take part in the efforts of the atashi foundation, and hope that, through our work, I will one day be able to wake up and realize that the future we hoped for has already come.
