an epigraph

stolen words

then there is the age of 17;

16 is skitty and frivolous.
all ‘sweet little sixteen’ — sexy
but not downright dirty. can stay out late
but not all night. has no hidden depth.

18 is dull, heavy
with the dawning of adult responsibilities.
old enough to vote.
old enough to join the army and kill people.
old enough to have a mortgage.
old enough to have a boring job for life.

but 17 is
this dark and mysterious age
in-between.

— Bill Drummond, “17”
